What is Kelly Kits? Kelly Kits are designed to encourage creativity & teach! These kits encourage art play using a wide variety of creative tools & materials beyond what coloring books can offer.

The Original Kelly Kit comes complete with one set of five unique activities that cover the five art disciplines: painting, drawing, sculpting, printmaking, & collage. Each kit contains all of the tools & materials needed for the activities, the user just needs access to a kitchen!

To increase functionality for homeschooling parents, each activity includes enough materials for two children to engage in the art-play or one child may do the activity twice! An instruction card with an enrichment idea to adapt the art activity to a school lesson is always included.

Kelly Kits uses only quality, NON-TOXIC materials! Please note that some kits DO contain WHEAT ingredients.

This month's fun activity is Kelly Klay where we focus on sculpting.  We followed the easy directions below for making our Klay

Gather these materials: water, cooking oil, small sauce pan, access to a stove top, small bowl, and spoon.

Empty the entire contents of your dry Kelly Klay into a small bowl.

MEASURE: ½ cup water, 1 TBSP water, 1 TBSP cooking oil into the small sauce pan and bring to a boil on the stove top.

Pour the boiling water and oil mixture over the dry mixture in the bowl and mix with a spoon or fork.

The mixture will slowly start to thicken into a soft dough.

Allow to cool for five minutes and enjoy!

Keep your Kelly Klay fresh for up to 4 weeks in an air tight container or plastic bag.

An Educational Conversation on Dough Sculpting for all ages:

Shanxi is a northern province in China (pronounced shan-she) where dough sculpture is a famous folk art.

Dough sculpture in China dates back to the Han Dynasty (206BC-AD220).

The dough is comprised of wheat and rice flour (much like Kelly Klay) and is used to form small figurines popular as gifts for weddings and birthdays.

Tang Suguo is one such famous Chinese artist. He grew up learning the art from his father Tang Zibo. Together they made innovations to this ancient art including the integration of colors into the dough instead of painting the surface of finished sculptures.

Kelly Kits are a fun way for kids to express their creativity, while learning about the many facets of art at the same time. Connect with Kelly Kits on Facebook and Twitter.
